- Wash hands with soap and water or disinfect them and make sure they are dry
- Place the device on a flat surface such that the suction unit can be easily reached when you are seated
- Then attach the connecting tube to the canister which has two ends, connect one end of the suction tube (with filter) to the lid of the canister (liquid holder) and the other end to the machine
- After that connect one end of the suction conductor to the lid of the canister. Attach the catheter to the other end of the suction conductor
- Make sure the canister is closed tightly with a lid, so no air is passed through
- Connect the adapter to the powered pump and insert the power plug into a power outlet and turn the power button on
- Before starting the process use sterile or distilled water to lubricate/wet the catheter and test the machine’s functioning and check all the tubing is securely connected to the air suction pump
- Then make sure the patient is in a seated position/ laid flat on their back
- Insert the catheter from the mouth or the tracheostomy tube carefully. (In the condition where a tube is used make sure that ideally the length of the catheter and the tracheostomy tube is the same.)
- Turn on/off the power button of the machine marked as “I”, to start the suction pump
- Adjust the vacuum pressure level by turning the pressure-adjusting knob, starting from the low level or as per requirement by observing the pressure gauge indicator for safety
- After that place your thumb over the suction vent the suction process will start within 5-10 seconds remove your thumb and allow the patient to rest and resume the suctioning if required
- When the liquid in the canister reaches the full level, suctioning will stop automatically
- Stop the device by pressing the on/off power button marked “O” the machine will shut off
- Turn off the power button and unplug from the power outlet
- Discard the catheter and empty the aspirated liquid from the canister and clean it
